Pembina Highway Overpass at Abinojii Mikanah Rehabilitation

Pembina Highway Overpass at Abinojii Mikanah Rehabilitation

This summer, we will be continuing bridge maintenance and road construction on the Pembina Highway
Overpass at Abinojii Mikanah.

Construction window: May to October 2026

In 2026, road and bridge work will focus on the Pembina Highway northbound lanes from Chancellor Drive to Plaza Drive.

We will:
– Fix northbound travel lanes
– Build a new northbound bike lane including a new bike lane on the east side of the bridge
– Fix the westbound Abinojii Mikanah offramp to the intersection at Pembina Highway
– Fix the northbound Pembina Highway to eastbound Abinojii Mikanah off-ramp
– Fix the northbound Pembina Highway to westbound Abinojii Mikanah off-ramp

During construction:
Pedestrians and cyclists
-Use the west side of the Pembina Highway to cross the bridge
– The east sidewalk will be closed
– We encourage cyclists to dismount when using sidewalks
– The multi-use path adjacent to the Rapid Transit Blue Line can be used to detour
around the work zone
– The Awasisak Meskanow Greenway running along Abinojii Mikanah will remain open
– We may install temporary detours on the greenway at times
-We will install signage to help wayfinding through the work zone
We will maintain Transit service
– We may temporarily disrupt or relocate bus stops at times
– We will install signage for these changes
We will maintain two lanes of vehicle traffic in each direction of Pembina Highway
– We will also maintain one southbound left-turn lane onto University Crescent
We will maintain two lanes of vehicle traffic in each direction on Abinojii Mikanah
We will close on/off-ramps for pavement work on a rotating basis:
– We expect each ramp to be closed for around six weeks
– More than one ramp may be closed at any given time
– Please plan ahead and use alternate routes if possible
Ramp closures may impact your ability to connect between Pembina Highway and Abinojii Mikanah

Lanes on Pembina Highway and Abinojii Mikanah will fully reopen in October 2026.
