Insect control to start Monday

Starting April 26, the City will begin this season’s insect control program. Environmentally friendly larviciding will take place with helicopters and ground equipment to target mosquito larvae before they emerge as adults.

Eliminate standing water: Do your part to keep your property mosquito free! Remove any source of standing water to prevent mosquito larvae from hatching. Regular cleaning of eavestroughs, covering rain barrels and emptying any container helps keep mosquito populations low.

Buffer Zones: Residents wishing to apply for a buffer zone for adult nuisance mosquito spraying can register with a 311 online service request, or by emailing 311@winnipeg.ca. An application must include proof of address, such as a driver’s license or utility bill. Applications can also be made in writing to the Insect Control Branch at 3 Grey Street., Winnipeg MB R2L 1V2.

Automatic notifications: If you wish to be notified of insect control activities near you, register for automated emails or telephone calls. Residents can register for notification online or by contacting 311.

The first trap counts will be posted May 3 on the the Insect Control website.
