While COVID-19 has greatly changed learning for all children, those with learning disabilities and ADHD have been even more impacted. Children with learning disabilities who struggle with language attainment are often already reluctant readers in groups with their peers. This ultimately has an impact on their self-esteem when they struggle to read aloud. During this time, many parents are reporting that children are falling further and further behind in their ability to read and spot sight words. With the requested $200 from the Winnipeg Wellness Fund, the Learning Disabilities Association of Manitoba will offer 16 hours of tutoring over eight weeks, free of charge, to children in our community who would benefit from it but cannot afford it. We are proud that this initiative will provide those reluctant readers with positive experiences with reading.
