Are you looking for summer work?  We have a variety of seasonal jobs available. Each one is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience working for us.

Our Public Works department will be interviewing would-be staffers right on the spot at three hiring halls in March. 

They’ll be interviewing for three positions: labourerstudent labourer, and gardener. You must submit a resume before attending a hiring hall. You can do that by clicking the job title you are interested in.

Labourer

If you like spending time outside doing physically demanding work, consider applying to be a seasonal labourer. Daily tasks include weeding, grounds maintenance, as well as street and sidewalk repairs.

This job requires a minimum Grade 10 education or equivalent. Previous experience in landscaping or construction is an asset.

You can apple for the student labourer position of you are returning to post-secondary school in the fall. This job works in a variety of areas. You could be assisting traffic control, cleaning worksite, or doing grounds maintenance.

Please note that you must be a post-secondary student. High school students may not apply as the job begins prior to the end of the public school year.

The earliest start date is April 15 and the latest release date is September 15.

Gardener

Planning floral displays, planting, and caring for a variety of plans are some of the responsibilities of our gardeners.

Consider applying if you’re familiar with landscape plants and shrubs. A Grade 12 or equivalent education is required and you should be prepared to work in all weather conditions.

Recreation Technicians

If you enjoy helping children and making an impact in your community, you might be interested in a Recreation Technician  position. Every summer, we offer programming for preschool, children, and youth as well as operate several aquatic wading pool facilities. Around 200 Recreation Technicians, in addition to existing employees, are needed to make sure everything runs smoothly.

The positions are ideal for students. A minimum of Grade 10 education is required; however, a Grade 12 or equivalent with experience is an asset. Emergency First Aid or higher and a valid CPR Level C certificate are also required.

Wading Pool Attendants are responsible for the operation, supervision, and safety of a wading pool.

There are seven different job openings available under the Recreation Technician position, including Wading Pool Attendant, Youth Leader, Children’s Leader, Children’s/Youth Fishing Leader, Preschool Leader, Building Supervisor and Facility Monitor, and Equipment Rentals and Equipment Delivery.

Office support

In the Summer Student Clerical/Administrative role, you’d be providing general office work and administrative support in areas such as customer service, accounting, finance, and data analysis. This is an opportunity available specifically for students returning to school in the fall.

You must be available to start work on short notice and intend on returning to school at the end of season. The earliest start date is April 15. Applications will be accepted through our careers page until February 28.

Part-time work

If you’re more interested in part time work, we’re in the process of recruiting for 311 Customer Service Representatives. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the City and gain experience in our workforce.

This position begins with five weeks of paid training beginning in early April. Applications will be accepted through our careers page until February 24.
