Waverley Underpass road work coming late July

The earth under the road at the Waverley Underpass has now compacted as seen by the road undulation as it flows over the large pipes underground at that location.

Pavement work is expected to occur in late July to eliminate the bumps by milling off the top surface of the pavement and placing a new lift of asphalt.

The bumps are located where underground pipes cross the road. Some post-construction settlement is normal and anticipated, in this case these issues were magnified due to the depth of the underpass, the resulting subgrade soil and moisture conditions, and the presence of the drainage pipes and backfill material. The work this summer was anticipated and built into the construction plan for the underpass.
