Heading on vacation? Keep these home security tips in mind…
With the coldest weeks of the year now upon us, many Winnipeggers will be seeking warmer weather in tropical destinations. If you plan to be away for any amount of time, make sure your home is secure. Empty homes can be targets for thieves who case neighbourhoods for signs of inactivity. Here’s seven tips to consider to keep you from being an easy target: -Arrange a neighbour, relative, or service to keep up outdoor maintenance, like clearing snow Use a timer to turn lights on and off to give your home a lived-in look -Let neighbours know when you’ll be away and when you plan to return so they can keep an eye out for suspicious activity -Keep important documents or valuables in a safe or lock box while you’re away -Double check that windows, doors and sheds are locked securely Last but not least, having a home alarm can be a great deterrent from would-be thieves. Don’t be shy! Place signs around your property to notify onlookers of the alarm system. By following these tips, you can relax knowing your home is taken care of. Safe travels! |
