City rolls out improvements to its permit services

Applicants can now sync development and building permit reviews, new features added to permit data webpage

– We’ve made changes to further improve our permit services.

First, we’re happy to now offer a concurrent process for projects that require both development and building permits.

We will now review a project’s development and building permit applications at the same time. This will allow us to approve and issue permits more quickly. Previously, applicants needed an approved development permit to apply for a building permit for the same project.

We also launched new features on our building permit database, winnipeg.ca/buildingpermitstats.

The building permit statistics page now shows yearly building permit volumes and permits by project type.

These new datasets add to information already available:

  • Permits issued by type and total value
  • Changes in residential dwelling units
  • A list of “major permits” issued by address (projects with a declared construction value of $2,000,000 or more)

“Access to clear and consolidated information empowers better planning and decision-making,” said Councillor Evan Duncan, Chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Property and Development. “By streamlining data and improving transparency, we’re helping projects move faster and showcasing the strong growth happening across Winnipeg.”

The permit stats date back to 2011 and are fed by our open data portal.
