Rethink your waste during Waste Reduction Week

It’s Waste Reduction Week – and we’d like Winnipeggers to think we can all cut down on waste to help the environment.

“Waste Reduction Week is a great reminder that small changes can make a big difference,” said Ross Eadie, Chairperson of the Standing Policy Committee on Water, Waste, and Environment. “Whether it’s recycling properly, cutting down on single-use items, or re-using what we already have – every action helps keep our city clean and protects the environment for future generations.

Waste that ends up in landfills creates greenhouse gases, which harm our climate. Here are some ways to help year-round.

  • Think before you throw it out: Buy less, reuse or fix what you have, and recycle when you can.
  • Clothing: Buy good quality clothes that last, shop second-hand, fix old clothes, and donate ones you don’t want anymore.
  • Electronics: Purchase refurbished electronics and fix old ones if possible. If your electronics still work, donate them. If not, recycle them at a 4R Winnipeg Depot.

Hazardous chemicals: Use them up fully or drop them off safely at a 4R Winnipeg Depot in their original container
