The City of Winnipeg has announced the Prevent a Litter program, which provides free spaying/neutering services for licensed dogs to Winnipeg residents living on low income. Spaying/neutering is an important step to creating a safer community and keeping your furry friend healthy and happy.
To qualify, you must be a Winnipeg resident with one of the following: you have a social assistance case number; you are a new permanent resident or refugee who has been in Canada for less than 18 months and have not filed a tax return; or you have an economic family income below the low income cut-off.
Qualifying residents with unlicensed dogs can access the service with the purchase of a 12-month license at a discounted rate of $40.25. To apply, please visit https://winnipeg.ca/cms/animal/pdfs/PALprogram/PALprogramApplicaton.pdf.
The program will be available for a limited time, and was made possible by a generous private donation.
Please note the Prevent a Litter program is only for dogs, but low-income spaying/neutering services for cats is available at the Winnipeg Humane Society and is subsidized by the City.
