Public Participation Process ContinuesWinnipeg, MB. – Winnipeg residents are invited to share their thoughts on the future of garbage and recycling services in our city by visiting the City of Winnipeg website at garbage.speakupwinnipeg.com . The Public Service is developing a garbage and recycling master plan to present to City Council in fall 2011. Darryl Drohomerski, Manager of the City’s Solid Waste Services, says, “We ” Drohomerski adds, “Winnipeggers are currently diverting 17% of all residential waste from the landfill, which is among the lowest for cities in Canada. A key goal of our master plan is to provide options for residents that will increase the diversion to at least 50% by improving garbage, recycling and composting services.” The six-month public participation process began on November 13, 2010, with a one-day expo at the Winnipeg Convention Centre. Over 100 Winnipeg residents attended to share their vision for the future of garbage and recycling services in our city, participate in round table discussions, and hear from a panel of experts in the waste management field.
