Winnipeggers are invited to take advantage of the Sunday/holiday bicycle routes starting Sunday, May 19 until Monday, October 14. There are four streets in Winnipeg designated as Sunday/holiday bicycle routes:
Sunday/holiday bicycle routes are in place on Sundays and holidays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. During this time, motor vehicle traffic will be restricted to a distance of not more than one block.
Signs are posted on all approach roadways as notification that motorists are entering a Sunday/holiday bicycle route. Signs are also posted at the end of the routes advising motorists that they are leaving the Sunday/holiday bicycle route. Barricades will be placed at the beginning and end of the routes to remind motorists that vehicle through-traffic is limited to one block on these routes. A violation of the Sunday/holiday bicycle route rules as outlined in the Traffic By-law may result in a fine.
It is important to note that these roads are not closed. Cyclists are reminded to use caution and continue to follow the rules of the road, and pedestrians should not walk on the roadway.
