Food Literacy Workshop - Life Cycle of the Three Sisters Crops: Squash, Beans, and Corn

Students in the University of Manitoba course SOC 3460: Building a Community Commons invite you to a food literacy workshop on the life cycle of the three Sisters crops: squash, beans, and corn.

We'll explore planting, care, harvesting, cooking, seed-saving, and composting. The workshop aims to connect participants with food through Indigenous storytelling led by Indigenous facilitators, Randi Henderson and Hailey Mowatt.We hope to include a sacred teaching of the Three Sisters by an Elder.

The workshop is open to community members of all ages and will be held at the Riverview Community Centre on June 30th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. All materials for activities will be provided, and participants will be able to take home seedlings started during the workshop.

We hope that participants will gain historical perspective of Indigenous agriculture along with practical food skills. Please RSVP to Randi Henderson at hender35@myumanitoba.ca by June 23.
