About the speaker: As a student in university, Marcie became passionate about gender equality and the impact of domestic violence on women and families within our society. As a result of this passion, Marcie attended the University of Manitoba where she obtained a Bachelor of Human Ecology degree (Family Studies), focussing on family dynamics and the impact of gender inequality. She began her career in the field of social services as a volunteer at Osborne House and Street Connections. Marcie became employed at Osborne House while still in university and later at Street Connections following graduation. Marcie was hired at Osborne House as a receptionist initially, and has since worked her way through different positions within the organization including Residential Support Worker and Women’s Counsellor. While seeking new challenges a few years ago, Marcie became the Volunteer Coordinator and once the new shelter emerged, Willow Place, she then took on the additional responsibilities of the communications, donations and alternate funding sources as the Community Coordinator. Marcie has been a dedicated employee of the shelter for over 20 years. Marcie is also a dedicated wife and mother, she has been married for 21 years and has two sons Zach (17) and Tyson (15). Marcie is active in her community and spends most of her free time watching her sons play football and hockey, being active herself, or enjoying time with family and friends.
