SUMMARY:The Hersh and Arna Shefrin Dialogues on Peace and Conflict Resolution
DESCRIPTION:Arthur V. Mauro Institute for Peace & Justice at St. Paul’s College \n  \nThe Mauro Institute is very pleased to be offering the first two events in a new series – The Hersh and Arna Shefrin Dialogues on Peace and Conflict Resolution. \n  \n[ALSO: Save the Date – the 2025 Sol Kanee Lecture on Peace and Justice is Monday\, November 3\, 7:00 pm at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights] \n  \nThe Hersh and Arna Shefrin Dialogues on Peace and Conflict Resolution are generously supported by a gift from Dr. Hersh [BSc(Hons)/70] and Arna Shefrin [DipDHyg/70; BA/71]. The Shefrin Dialogues were established to invite two (or more) leading thinkers / speakers with different views of a specific conflict to present and exchange perspectives on topical issues related to peace\, justice\, and conflict resolution. \n  \nThe Hersh and Arna Shefrin Dialogues on Peace and Conflict Resolution are free and open to all. The dialogues are both in-person and available to be streamed on the Mauro Institute’s YouTube channel. \n  \n  \nDialogue #1 – Wednesday\, September 17 | 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm | Hanley Hall (Room 220) St. Paul’s College (reception to follow) \nThe Hersh and Arna Shefrin Dialogues on Peace and Conflict Resolution \nResisting the Perceived Limits of Dialogue \n  \nMiddle powers such as Canada depend on the power of dialogue to create institutions and agreements with dispute settlement mechanisms designed to level the playing field with big powers. The post-war architecture of multilateralism that depended on American leadership and involvement and the willingness to underwrite the global operating system is fractured with President Donald Trump’s premise to “make America great again”. This presentation by former Canadian diplomat\, Colin Robertson and roundtable discussion will consider if it can be put back together or how it should change\, and what forms of dialogue that would entail. \nPanelists will include Dr. Ursula Lehmkuhl and Dr. Manuel Fröhlich of Trier University\, and Dr. James Fergusson and Dr. Stephan Jaeger of the University of Manitoba. The roundtable discussion will be moderated by Dr. Andrea Charron\, Director\, Centre for Defence and Security Studies\, and Professor\, International Relations University of Manitoba \nReserve your free tickets to the lecture 7:00 pm\, in-person at St. Paul’s College \nLivestream on the Mauro Institute YouTube channel. \n  \n  \nDialogue #2 – Thursday\, September 25 | 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm | Fr. Jensen SJ Theatre (Room 100) St. Paul’s College \nThe Hersh and Arna Shefrin Dialogues on Peace and Conflict Resolution \nLeading With Compassion Amid Conflict and Violence \n  \nDeep human connection and providing service from a place of compassion is increasingly difficult in our complex and polarizing world. In our quest for peace and justice\, is compassion simply a pollyannish illusion? Come\, hear\, and have a conversation with our panelists who have strived to bring compassion into their work in different ways. Hear their challenges and triumphs as they dared to lead with compassion in times of conflict and violence. \nPanelists will include Dr. Bob Chrismas\, Team Lead\, Winnipeg Community Safety Team\, Dr. Shauna Labman\, Executive Director\, Global College and Associate Professor\, University of Winnipeg\, and Devon Clunis\, Former Chief of Police\, Winnipeg Police Service\, Author\, and International Consultant. The roundtable discussion will be moderated by Dr. Melanie Soderstrom\, Professor\, Department of Psychology\, University of Manitoba \nThe Hersh and Arna Shefrin Dialogues on Peace and Conflict Resolution are free and open to all. The dialogues are both in-person and available to be streamed on the Mauro Institute’s YouTube channel. \nReserve your free tickets to the lecture 7:00 pm\, in-person at St. Paul’s College (free pre-lecture reception from 6:30 pm) \nLivestream on the Mauro Institute YouTube channel. \n

SUMMARY:Winnipeg’s new bus network launches June 29\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:The Primary Transit Network and its feeder routes\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat do you need to know now to get ready for the Primary Transit Network? Here are the five most important things: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSchedules now available\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYour stops and routes will change\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNew lines\, routes\, and On-Request zones launch June 29\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrequent\, direct\, connected\, and easy to use\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe new network will be accessible\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHelp us spread the word! Our community toolkit page has: \n\nResources to share with your community\nA schedule of Information Bus pop-up events\nDetails on how community groups can request to host an info session\n\n\n\n\n\nContact\nWe invite you to sign up to receive updates from the Primary Transit Network project team. \n\n\nSubscribe for updates\n\n\nQuestions or Concerns? Contact 311.  \n\n\n\n \nSchedules now available\nYou can now look up stop schedules and plan trips for the new network using Navigo and the Transit app. We’ve partnered with the Transit app for one year. This partnership includes a Winnipeg Transit preview mode that lets you view trip plans for the new network. Because the Transit app and Navigo use different algorithms to plan trips\, you may get different results on each app. \nIf you are seeing an unexpected or strange Navigo result\, please report it to 311. If possible\, take a screenshot. Your feedback will help improve this service for everyone. \nIf you have feedback for the Transit app\, tap “Contact us” in the app’s settings menu\, or contact the Transit app team. \nNot online? As always\, you can contact 311 for assistance. \n\n\nImage\n\n\n\n  \nYou can also look at all the new routes in our system map (updated June 12/25). \nIf you have accessibility needs and require information in another format\, please contact 311 for assistance. \n\n\n\n \nYour stops and routes will change\nWe’re replacing just about all bus routes in Winnipeg\, simplifying our network. Straighter routes make it easier to get from anywhere to anywhere. They’re also more efficient. \n\n\nImage\n\n\n\n  \nAll bus stops will get new sign plates\, and new stop numbers. \n\nWe’ll add new stops on streets getting transit for the first time\nWe’ll remove them where buses will no longer run\nWe’ll move stops to make them more accessible\, closer to controlled crosswalks  \, and with more consistent spacing.\n\nWe’ll also upgrade bus stop infrastructure\, improving accessibility. Improving bus stop accessibility is an ongoing effort for Winnipeg Transit\, but we have additional funds for this work as part of this project. We’ll continue these additional upgrades throughout 2025 to 2028.

SUMMARY:Free access to City-run pools and recreation facilities on June 7
DESCRIPTION:Free access to City-run pools and recreation facilities on June 7\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNo admission fee during regular operating hours to mark National Health and Fitness Day\n  \nMay 30\, 2025\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFitting in a workout or going for a swim at one of our City-run facilities will be free on June 7. That’s because we are marking National Health and Fitness Day by offering free access to City-run pools and recreation facilities during regular operating hours. \nCelebrated on the first Saturday in June\, National Health and Fitness Day provides an opportunity to embrace healthy physical activity. It is included in the National Health and Fitness Act which became law at the end of 2014. \nWe have several pools and recreation facilities available for residents to visit and there is no need to pre-register. Public entry requirements and capacity restrictions will still apply. \nOn top of free access for National Health and Fitness Day\, we also offer free swim times at all pools. There are also Loonie/Toonie swim times for even more affordable fun and fitness options. The hours are subject to change.
